He’s a romantic man who acts like a boy, believes in magical meetings and eternal love. Of course Lisa Egnell wanted to challenge fate and cuddle up close next to Darren Hayes. You know, the handsome guy from Savage Garden.

You’re releasing a solo-album, does this mean the end of Savage Garden?
-We just broke up...haha. Give us some time. To be honest, not that there’s any bones to pick between us, but I can’t imagine us doing a record together again. I think we found out what we wanted to do with our lives during our time in the band. For me it was working with music forever while it wasn’t that important to him.

How’s your relationship today?
-It’s OK. I spoke with Daniel some months ago. No matter what happened to the band I think we needed some time apart for a while. We were never “best friends”. He’s a genius and I look up to him immensely but there has always been a distance between us. We are so different as humans.

How come you formed a band if you are so different?
-Daniel was in a cover-band that I applied for and was accepted to. Although when we were supposed to go away and play I heard that U2 was playing in my town. I told Daniel that they should go and do their covers and that I wanted to see U2. I said call me if you want to write some songs together, and he did call me. That’s how it started. I have no regrets about Savage Garden, but you evolve and want to do new things.

Was this something you planned to start with, that you should do a solo-career?
-I thought I would do it someday, but I didn’t know when. Well, it turned out Daniel didn’t want to be a pop-star for the rest of his life. Sure, when he started to talk about not wanting to do another record I was upset, but I had a whole tour to digest that information. Looking back I must say it was good for me because it forced me to take action in my own project. Now I feel like the future lies before me and that anything could happen.

Would you call yourself a boy or a man?
-Interesting... I think I’m a man now, but I act like a boy. Ha, ha...

Are you single?
-I don’t talk about that.

How would a girl seduce a guy like you?
-I don’t get seduced. You must charm me. Besides, I’m one of those that believes in real love and that special connection is important. To just match with someone isn’t my thing, it must be magical and destiny.

Do you believe in eternal love?
-Yes

What do you think of Swedish girls?
-Funny, sexy and attractive. I have a special relationship to this country. In the beginning when nobody wanted to play Savage Garden’s music we made a success here in Sweden and I can never forget that. Swedes are enthusiastic.

What’s the best thing about you as a man/guy?
-Oh... I believe I’m a good person. I’m romantic, maybe even a bit too romantic...

Blondes or brunettes?
-Brunettes

Dog or cat?
-Dog

Europe or Australia?
-Australia, after all, it’s my home.

Tits or butts?
-I would say tits. I have a butt of my own.
