HE may still consider himself just a lad from Logan but chart-topping popstar Darren Hayes obviously enjoys looking at life with a Hollywood tint. Or perhaps he is no longer accustomed to the savage Queensland sun. The 30-year-old former "other half" of defunct pop duo Savage Garden yesterday refused in true celebrity-style to remove his designer wrap- around sunglasses as he posed for the cameras.

Hayes – who now spends much of his time in San Francisco – is back home to promote his debut solo album, Spin. Last night, he showcased the album at an invitation-only performance at Warner Bros Movie World on the Gold Coast.

Earlier, the singer renowned for loving the spotlight and glare of publicity, made a brief public appearance looking like the boy next door – except, of course, for those sunnies.

Oblivious to many of the theme park's funseekers, the newly-blond Hayes arrived for a presentation by Premier Peter Beattie of gold and platinum records for his album and hit single Insatiable, respectively.
