Darren Hayes gives a concert of his world tour Too close for Comfort.
The former Savage Garden singer says goodbye to his Don Juan image at the Ice Palace on October 25.
Fans of Darren Hayes are sure that their idol is more then just ex-vocalist of Savage Garden. Hayes is a real romantic. His high-pitched voice in some ways resembles the soft pronounce of the Prince of the Elves, a character from the famouse fairy-tale by Hans Christian Andersen, "Thumbelina". Among previous Savage Garden hits was To The Moon and Back but nowHayes is bidding for solo stardom with the release of the album Spin. On this record, which is the main feature of the tour that brings him to St.Petersburg, the musician experiments with melodramatic emotions. The songs' themes are taken from life: a man betrays his fellow friend an adored girlfriend gets hurt and leaves forever. Nevetheless, the lyrics of songs like Strange Relationship and Insatiable seem to have been concieved in suffering.
Darren Hayes is extremely proud of his first solo outing, "When music is concerned, I feel that I'm doing exactly what I should be doing. I feel good about everything connected with Savage Garden but it has become my past now. I feel like a free man. It's as if I have just finished school and achieved certain maturity and professionalism as a performer. It's good that I amnot supposed to behave as the best guy in the whole universe and be as sweet as apple pie any more. I want to free myself of the image of the cutie who is expected to be saying right things and anchanting the girls", explains Hayes, thoughtfully.
In spite of all that, the present of love themes on this album is obvious. The musician has striven for excellence on the album and has archived certain results. He has more electronic sounds here, and the guitar play is undoubtedly very masterful. "It was a real challenge to myself", mused Hayes during the recording of the album. "I wanted the electronic sounds to come straight from my heart. Most pop singers don't get the satisfaction from what they are doing because they sing mechanically and don't put their hearts in it". And the band U2 with their middle of the road music featuring harmonically mixed pop-rock and electronic sounds is one of the Darren Hayes's favourites. He seems to like them better than Prince, Madonna or Michael Jackson.
