Having parted with Savage Garden, Darren Hayes threw
himself into a solo career. He was followed by thousands of faithful girls. Are you one of
them? Recently, Darren has conquered Moscow and now he talks about his impressions. "Darren Hayes' first visit to Moscow was not at the best of times - the Australian arrived the same day as the Nord-Ost tragedy was taking place. Most foreign celebrities have cancelled their Moscow concerts, but not Darren. A person, who himself barely survived the New York tragedy (reference to Molotok issue #35), knows how important it is to help people collect themselves after a serious shock. Here is the exclusive interview! Headline: Operation: "Anti-terror." Darren Hayes thinks about Alsu [note from Eva: a young Russian popsinger. Think 'Britney' or 'Christina'.] Darren, the wave of terror has scared the entire world yet you came anyway. Did you think to cancel the concert? - I am sorry that my first concerts in Russia have coincided with these tragic events, but despite them, my heart is always with you. I have many fans in Russia who have been waiting for a long time. I didn't want to dissapoint them, considering that these people paid a lot of money for the tickets. My concert celebrated life. Why did you call your tour 'Too Close For Comfort'? - Before, when I sang with Savage Garden, we performed in large arenas. Now, almost all my concerts happen in small, intimate halls, where you can get closer to the audience to communicate. You can see eyes, you have an opportunity to exchange looks with almost everyone - it's very important to me. Why did you decide to become a musician? - When I was little, I was greatly influenced by Michael Jackson - that is evident from some of 'Spin's' song; I paid tribute to the King in them. When I was young, I attended his concerts, and I was very impresed with the effect Michael had on the audience, the image he created. I wasn't interested in the fact that he was a legend and a superstar, but in how he inspired the audience, how he could get them involved with just a single movement. I wanted to have such an effect on people. Having become a musician, I have reached my goal. Do you have any pleasant memories of working with Savage Garden? - Of course! Those years were wonderful! The best moment I think was our performance in Sydney at the Olympics Closing Ceremony. That was incredible! First, only the most deserving are invited to perform. Second, many of the fans were Australian, and it was a great honour for me to perform for them. I will remember their happy faces for the rest of my life. Have any big changes happened in your life after the break-up? - Of course! I had decided to change practically everything then. Stopped being a vegetarian, stopped dying my hair, parted ways with my wife. I basically started a new life! When is a new album coming out? - Wait, stop. Not so fast! 'Spin' hadn't come out that long ago. I don't want people to get tired of me too quickly. How does one say it in Russian - 'good things in small doses'? Although, obviously, I constantly have new ideas. I collect them, and the most interesting ones get written down in my notebook, which I always carry with me. A new album will come but not earlier than next year. Are you going to perform a duet with a girl? - Of course I've been thinking about that. My managers are looking at some offers but right now, duets are not included in my near-future plans. Maybe later... Everything is possible, maybe I'll sing with some Russian singer. I once saw Enrique Iglesias perform with one of your beauties. Oh yes, right, Alsu. That was super! What do you know about the Russian people? - Not that much: they are very warm-hearted, know how to relax and they like good music. I mean, my music. I love it, too. Which means that the Russians and I share the most important thing. That means I'll come back to visit you again. -Lilya Balinova." |
