Hayes' Solo Effort Pays Off

DARREN Hayes feels like a brand new
artist since Savage Garden split, and he has a platinum record to show for it. "I
love the fact that I have to start again. I feel like I am 18," said Hayes, who turns
30 this year. Hayes accepted a platinum award at Movieworld Studios on the Gold Coast for his first solo single Insatiable, which has sold 70,000 copies in Australia. But the day was not so golden for former manager John Woodruff, who faced court over a yacht collision. The NSW District Court heard that a yacht skippered by Woodruff allegedly rammed another yacht during the Sydney to Southport race in July 1999. Woodruff, who denies he was negligent, was racing the $900,000, 15m yacht called The Dreamtime. Sydney yachtsman Geoffrey Phillips, who is suing for $50,000 damages, told the court the collision was like Mike Tyson hitting a flyweight. But the rock manager, who mortgaged his house to help Savage Garden, said Mr Phillips failed to keep a lookout. |
