Darren Hayes - Spin
(Heat Magazine - UK, April)

INA NUTSHELL: the debut solo album from ex-savage garden frontman Darren Hayes. He's back with a cheery smile and a new blonde barnet, but is his sound any different?

WHATS IT LIKE: Mr Hayes is in fine voice as usual, and there's some classic Savage Garden-style balladry on the tracks like I MISS YOU, GOOD ENOUGH and the fantastic recent single INSATIABLE. Theres also a shout out to SG's more upbeat tracks on pop numbers such as HEART ATTACK,SPIN and the rather saucy WHAT YOU LIKE.

HOW MANY GOOD TRACKS? Ten, out of 12

BEST TRACK: CRUSH(1980ME). A camp uptempo pop tune.

WORST TRACK: CREEPIN'UP ON YOU is an unpleasent pop ditty that sounds like it should be on a backstreet boys single.

VERDICT: If you were a fan of savage garden, then you can't go wrong with SPIN because it sounds pretty much exactly the same as their albums did.
Which begs the question - what exactly did the other bloke do? *** (3 stars)
