Just when I was getting worried that Victor Calderone was suffering from "Vasquez-itis" (a common syndrome among hot DJ remixers who find themselves at the top of the remix world, only to find themselves at the bottom...before climbing back up again) here he returns with an awesome track that shows him at his best. In a mix worthy of its nine-minute-plus length, this release soars with ex-Savage Garden front-man Hayes' etheral vocals. But it's Calderone's dark and deep club vibe that keep the track's feet far enough underground to keep even the heaviest of dark club DJs happy. Calderone isn't working alone though, he's got Hex Hector's bud Mac Quayle assisting on keyboards which truly takes this tune over the top. Best of all though is Calderone's ability to keep the energy flowing: typically he builds a track, drops out the beat completely, brings in the vocals acapella and then rebbuilds from there. If you wanted to keep the energy going , a second copy to mix with was a must. No need this time...which makes it odd to see a dub mix included on the US vinyl release. Pablo La Rosa turns in a great disco-house styled reworking which works well with anything from the illicit camp. The Australian import release also features several mixes by Specificus: skip all of these and head straight for Calderone's. Your dance floor will thank you.
