Darren Hayes: "Savage Garden will always be a part of my life" Ex-Savage Garden solist Darren Hayes admits in interview to
SL Õhtuleht that he's really waiting forward to a concert inTallinn on 31st October. Two
years ago he bought most of his You've mentioned that you're claiming style-change as a solo artist. But still you are playing Savage Garden old hits. Naturally I will play Savage Garden songs on my concerts. They are part of me, my past and it will stay that way forever. My music is developing and changing with me. But Savage Garden will stay part of my life, because this is the story of my life. At the moment the length of my career is 3 albums, two of them with a group and one as a solo artist. It's hard for me to describe the changes, I'm standing too close. I can say that this time in my life is happier and I have more freedom. My music reflects it too. Is the life of solo artist easier or harder than member of the band? I've never worked so hard in my life, in many ways I've had to start over. But as it comes to my career I think it's verythankful time, because for every little step to succeed I owe thanks only to myself. The past of Savage Garden is it a bargain to get rid of, or an obligation in front of fans to remain the old style? I feel that there are people who have been watching my career since past until today, and there are also people who hear my music just now as a new artist. I've lost few fans and gained few ones too. Everything is in development and change inside of me. Nothing can stay the same way as it was. I'm proud of my past, but I won't let it reflect my creation or my records. How does it feel do be on stage? Is it work or fun? During the last year it's been a hard work mostly, but now, being on a tour I enjoy performing. And since I adore performing in the public I feel myself just great right now. Your most disturbing and most exciting concert lately? In North-Ireland we had to stop the concert because of a fire alarm. That was disturbing. As most pleasant experience I remember London-show just little time ago. Everything was just great: the crowd, band, feeling, atmosphere in the hall. Wonderful night. How do you relax? I try to do yoga every day. It keeps your mind clear. Why do you live in San Francisco not in Los Angeles or New York? I got to San Francisco totally by accident, but I've discovered beautiful and peaceful paradise there. I could never live permanently in LA or NY. It's too crowded and too much going on. I prefer peace.' Would it be possible to keep up career like yours living in home Australia? If you want to spend whole life in a plane then yes. For me it's logistically easier when all the travelling starts from America. But I'm sure that some day I will get out of here. How often do you meet your family? I see them four times a year or even more often. We're extremely close. Sometimes the come visit me or travel with me. Which memories do you have from your last visit to Tallinn? I bought most of my Christmas gifts from here. Tallinn is amazing what a people, architecture, amber! Your beautiful city is full of history and culture. I can't wait to visit you again. What would you like to say to your fans over here? Thanx for remembering me! |
